First and foremost, thank you for your curiosity for finding this page. My name is Haoxian Lu and I am a recent graduate from OCAD University majoring in industrial design.
Have you figured out what the "thing" was on the landing page yet? If not, feel free to have a look and come back with an answer in mind.
I graduated from University of Toronto Mississauga few years ago with a bachelor of commerce degree in human resources. But the business world was too cold and technical. Living beings were converted into numbers and equations. I saw value in everyday things and interactions between people. And I believe that there is value in the past as much as the future, and all our cultural heritage has much to offer in the design world. Once again, it is all about the perspective.
A word that I find fitting to my believe is "Anekāntavāda" ( word from ancient India, meaning non-absolutism and multisidedness of truths). The picture on the landing page was taken two years ago of an egg. With a light spray of water and proper lighting, it resembled the texture of a marble ball.
It was at that moment I realized that is what why design is so important to the world. Because design is the science of perception, the art of presentation and the system of problem solving. Design can be so intricate in its making that it can feel like magic (or even better, a riddle). I believe that there is always a solution that yields the best result at a single given moment, and it is a designer's job is to find it.
I hope you had as much fun reading that as I had writing it, and I wish you all the best in the journey of finding new perspectives.
With love and passion,
